なんと！　トールキンの新作が登場です。

The Children of Húrin
トールキンが１９１８年の着手以来、何度も手を加え、ついに完成できなかった作品。
残された断章を息子のChristopherが編集し、本としたものです。
すでに一部が各所で現われていましたが、トリロジーよりも以前の世界の物語らしい。

おととい（４月１６日）発売されたばかりですが、Wikipediaには早くも項目が登場。

ほんとに深々と愛されてるんですね、トールキン作品。とりわけ英語圏のネット社会で。

箱入りの豪華本も出版されています。
英国（HarperCollins）とアメリカ（Houghton Mifflin）でそれぞれ出てて、写真を見るとなんかちがってるみたい。マニアはこの差分の餌食となるのでしょう。値段も大きくちがう（笑）
テキストもちがったたりするんでしょうか。興味深いです。しかし、どれを買うべきなのか。。(；・∀・)

うへー、そんな本が出てましたか！
全然知らなかった。（自慢じゃないけど、大抵知らない私 ^^;）
トールキンは好きなんですけど、それほどコアなファンじゃないので
「終わらざりし物語」を読む時も、ちょっと躊躇したんですよねえ。
完璧主義者のトールキンだったら、そんな推敲途中の状態のを
出して欲しくなかっただろうなあ、なんて思ってしまって。

箱入りの本、素敵ですね。でも値段がー。
それに英語の本といえば、先にテニスンを読まなくちゃいけません。
まだほとんど取り掛かってないんですよ。
そうこうしてるうちに翻訳が出るかな？
今、きっと修羅場なんでしょうね。（笑）

トールキン新作、英語圏ではすごく盛り上がってるみたいですヽ(´ー｀)ノ

息子クリストファー編集ものは、父が漠然と雲のように抱いていた世界を、地図や年表に表せる形にしていくもの…といえそうです。
クリストファーは、the History of Middle-earthという１２巻シリーズもあって、こちらも未訳。
マニア魂に火に油を注ぐような、トリビアに満ち満ちたクリストファライズ…のようです。

新作はとにかく暗いというのが特徴らしいです。
トールキン自身は否定するのですが、やっぱり同時代のふたつの世界大戦が濃厚に影を落としているみたい。

翻訳、たいへんそうですよね(笑)
瀬田さんの文体をどの程度まで残し、どの程度まで捨てるかが、大問題です。
どう訳しても、怒る人がいそうで、かなり豪胆な翻訳力が必要にちがいないです☆
